On November 16, Hugel Day 2024 will be celebrating its 16th anniversary! #SpiceUpYourLife
First started in the United States in 2009, this event, celebrated by wine merchants and restaurants with events & promotions, puts a spotlight on the great wines of Alsace made by the Hugel family. At the heart of Riquewihr since 1639, the 13th generation of Famille Hugel continue to represent and support the Alsacian identity with wines giving the purest expression of Alsace Terroir using sustainable & organic farming methods.
For over 370 years the Hugel family has produced beautiful classic wines of Alsace. Known today for their passion and modern outlook, the dynamic Hugel family, located in the fortified village of Riquewihr, has earned a worldwide reputation for their Alsace wines. All of the wines are made from handpicked, sustainably grown grapes.
We will taste Hugel's famous Gentil white, a blend of all the local grapes of Alsace and the perfect 'everyday' dry French white; followed by Hugel's Classic Pinot Gris which is super fresh and zippy packed with underlying apricot and yellow peach fruit flavors. If someone is stuck on Chardonnay, they owe it to themselves to try this. It's much more interesting. More versatile with food. And yes, it's the same grape as Pinot Grigio but wildly different in taste due to the special terroir (soils and cool climate) of Alsace. And it is an incredible value for this level of complexity. And finally a real treat, we will taste Hugel's 2019 Classic Gewürztraminer from a cool and long growing season which gave this unique dry wine superb finesse and unequalled intensity. All of these whites would make gorgeous pairings on Thanksgiving day.
