The white wines of Puligny-Montrachet are some of the most famous and most widely acclaimed in the world. This is undoubtedly due to the local microclimates and the clay, siliceous sand and lime contents of the soil. The domaine of Etienne Sauzet is made up of 26 acres, much of it in the heart of the finest premier cru vineyards of Puligny- Montrachet. The average age of the vines is 30-35 years. Gérard Boudot, owner and winemaker of Domaine Sauzet, is seeking maximum finesse and an individual expression of the terroir in his wines. Boudot, who married the granddaughter of the late Etienne Sauzet, runs the domaine and has modernized and improved the vinification, making Sauzet wines among the most sought-after white wines of Burgundy. The estate has been bottling 100% of its production since the early 1950's. Since 1975, the domaine has been selling the entirety of its production in bottle.
The premier cru of Les Referts in Puligny-Montrachet is located next to Les Combettes vineyard, with similar soils with a higher proportion of clay than other vineyards in Puligny. Both vineyards are located close to the boundary of Meursault, in the northern part of Puligny. Open and broad, Sauzet's Les Referts is made from 35+ year old vines planted in deep clay soil interspersed with lots of gravel and aged in 33% new wood.

Wine Advocate
- wa91-93
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Referts is lovely, bursting with aromas of pear, green apple, confit citrus, freshly baked bread and toasted nuts. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and racy, with an envelopingly textural attack that segues into a pure, mineral palate, it's seamless and harmonious.
Vinous
- v91-93
The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet Les Referts 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet with green apple, nectarine, and subtle wet pavement scents, quite generous in style with a hint of praline. The palate is taut and fresh, with very fine tension. It is one of the most citric cuvées from Sauzet with a flinty, slightly reductive finish, suggesting it will require a couple of years in a bottle.
