This vineyard is special to everyone at the winery; right in Turley's backyard, it’s what they see every day at work (and from the family home!). Slowly and steadily, the Turley family has planted additional head-trained dry-farmed Zinfandel vines to complement the original planting from the mid-1990s, and the entire property is certified organic. Taking a page from their beloved old vine vineyards, they’ve also planted several of the varieties most commonly interplanted in old Zinfandel vineyards, including Carignane, Trousseau, and Cinsault.
Turley Wine Cellars was founded in Napa Valley by former emergency room physician Larry Turley in 1993. Under the direction of winemaker Tegan Passalacqua, Turley now makes 50 different wines from over 50 vineyards across California, primarily Zinfandel and Petite Syrah, with many vines dating back to the late 1800s. By farming organically and focusing on old vine vineyards of these varieties, Turley aims to both create and preserve California’s unique winemaking culture. All of Turley's vineyards are either certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers or somewhere in the process, and they use all natural yeasts in the fermentations.

The 2021 Zinfandel Turley Estate is bright, punchy and intensely savory. This St. Helena Zinfandel delivers the goods. Powerful and deeply resonant, the Estate is absolutely compelling. This Zinfandel, in reality a Zinfandel-based field blend of 24 varieties, is full of dynamism and character. It will likely need a few years to come together, but then watch out. 92-94

Refined and deeply structured, with potent wild berry, roasted sage and white pepper flavors that build richness and tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2031. 2,425 cases made.

Deep ruby, the 2021 Zinfandel Turley Estate opens with rubbery notes that give way to cassis, dried plums and toasted coconut. The full-bodied palate is much more generous than the nose. Super concentrated and ripe, it has a supple mouthfeel and some overt coconut flavors. It seems to unwind as it airs, so give it some time in a decanter, and serve it with grilled meats or ribeye.
