One of the most famous places in Bordeaux is SAINT ÉMILION where, at their best, the wines are rich, pure, balanced and silky. Dame de Gaffelière 2019 is a lovely example from a top estate at a very reasonable price. It is the special label of the highly regarded Château-La-Gaffelière, which retails a much higher pricepoint. Dame de Gaffelière is a 'wine for pleasure' with a 10 year potential of aging. The work in the younger plots of the estate is equal to the actions in the parcels for the first label : pruning, de-leafing, green harvest, hand-picking, etc... In the cellar, the same technical gestures are used in vinification. Aged in French oak barrels which have been used one or two years before (to make sure the wine is not too, too oaky), the wine stays in these barrels for 10-12 months. Serve with both red and white meat dishes, with grilled salmon, cheeses, pâté and cured meats.
Château La Gaffelière, which gained status in 1954 as a Saint-Émilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, is the original estate of the Malet Roquefort family who originally settled and established the winery at the turn of the 1700’s. It is a gorgeous estate in Saint-Emilion which can be found in a great location right next to Chateau Pavie. While their first wine gets much of the attention, their Dame de Gaffeliere puts many other estates' first wines to shame– it’s a big, powerful Bordeaux blend with the muscle of a wine far more expensive than today’s price tag. In the sensational 2019 vintage in the Right Bank, Chateau la Gaffeliere’s second wine ‘Dame de Gaffeliere’ very well might take the prize for the best value of the vintage. It’s an exceptionally sleek and full-bodied Bordeaux Blend that perfectly displays the incredible depth and structure for aging like great Right Bank wines.

The wine has a luscious quality. It comes from a dedicated parcel of the Gaffelière estate, giving a juicy black fruit style with rich tannins and layers of fine fruit. Drink from 2025.

Black fruit, blueberries, cassis, walnuts, olives and charred bark on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with firm, powdery tannins. Rich and savory character on the palate with a fleshy finish. Try from 2025.
