Located in Oyón, one of the historic cities of the D.O.Ca. La Rioja, El Coto de Rioja was founded in 1970. During these almost 50 years of history, El Coto has strived to create of one of the most recognized wine brands in Spain and around the world. El Coto is the largest owner of vineyards in the D.O.Ca. Rioja, with four distinct estates (and eight individual properties) sprawling throughout the three sub regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa. Each estate is suited to produce the best Rioja can offer. El Coto not only takes care of what goes in the bottle, but how it’s handled before and after it gets there. Typical aging rules for Rioja D.O.Ca. dictates that a Crianza must be oak aged for 12 month. El Coto takes it a step further with 12+ months in oak, and an additional six months in bottle before release. This helps ensure the best possible product travels from the winery to your table.
Exceptionally structured with balanced tannins, this Gran Reserva is aged for 24 months in American oak followed by 36 months in bottle prior to release. Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva shows great aromatic complexity with a silky palate that delivers a lengthy and rich finish. This wine is the ideal accompaniment with roasted meats. Made of a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano, this Gran Reserva is from a vineyard dating back to 1548.
Brilliant ruby color, with russet tones. Mature and elegant, its aromatic richness is changing and subtle, becoming more apparent as the wine breathes. Notes of toast and coconut followed by tertiary aromas (leather, earth), and red fruit and dried fruit. Round, silky tannins, persistent and complex aftertaste. Ideal accompaniment for roast suckling lamb, game, or red meat.

This is an immensely satisfying mouthful of wine with sweet vanilla oak, black/red cherry fruit, cassis and blackberry scents. The palate has polished black fruit appeal, sleek oak layering, sandy-grained tannins and a pulsating refined finish. A magnificent wine that will doubtlessly develop slowly and surely.

Aromas of blackberry, Red Delicious apple peel and menthol prep the palate for flavors of cassis, purple plum, vanilla, violet and eucalyptus. A wall of compact tannins comes on strong but evaporates into a long, minty finish.

Well-balanced and fresh, this medium-bodied version is tightly meshed at first, though opening nicely in the glass to display flavors of ripe cherry and red currant, mocha, iron and spiced orange peel. The lively finish is firmed by fine, taut tannins. Tempranillo and Graciano. Drink now through 2030. 20,000 cases made, 3,000 cases imported.
