TOP 100 WINE OF THE YEAR 2024 # 41 : Whitehaven in Marlborough, New Zealand, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019, founded by the White family. Founder Sue White professes, 'the power of our product is in its purity – its Marlborough wine to the last grape. Our customers know that every vintage they will be getting a consistently high standard because we value our reputation as a premium label.'
Look for a pale lemon color with a green hue and bright clarity. Lifted passionfruit, grapefruit, gooseberry, and peach fruit flavors, with complexing hints of jalapeno, nettle, boxwood and blackcurrant leaf follow. A full flavored, medium bodied wine, with regionally typical blackcurrant and gooseberry flavors that linger on the dry, clean finish. This wine is a perfect accompaniment to summer salads, poultry and shellfish, such as Marlborough's famous green-shell mussels. Also try it with lobster and white fish.

The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc is pure, clean and aromatic. Dry and zesty, it provides pristine fruit flavors akin to lime, lemongrass and passion fruit. Light-bodied with modest concentration of flavor and fleeting length, it's nevertheless a balanced, punchy style that will be widely enjoyed by the glass in the summer months.
