This is a classic wine of the estate and a classic wine of the appellation, offering an archetypal expression of the finesse and elegance of the wines of Côte-Rôtie. Made from plots on very steep slopes of the Côte Blonde with silicone limestone soils, blended with the Côte Brune, with soils rich in iron oxyde. Made of 96 % Syrah, 4% Viognier with vines averaging 35 years. Aged 36 months in oak barrels - 50% new oak.
The prestigious Guigal domain was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the ancient village of Ampuis, home of the wines of the Côte-Rôtie. In these vineyards of over 2400 years old you can still see the small terraced walls characteristic of the Roman period. Etienne Guigal arrived in this region in 1923 at the age of 14. He made wine for over 67 vintages and, today, winemaker Philippe Guigal is the third generation to continue the family tradition of producing the greatest wines of the Rhône Valley.
Dark ruby red in color. The nose presents spices, red berries and delicate oak aromas. The wine opens with round, soft tannin that are followed by raspberry, blackberry and vanilla. Overall, the wine is balanced between scarcely perceptible acidity and tannins which add ageing potential and softened by long ageing in oak.

Not yet bottled, the 2017 Côte Rôtie Brune Et Blonde will be an outstanding wine as well as have 15 years of prime drinking. Rocking levels of kirsch and black raspberry fruits are interwoven with nuances of flowers, incense, herbes de Provence, and spice. This ripe, sexy, medium to full-bodied barrel sample shows the sunny style of the vintage yet has seamless tannins and stays weightless on the palate. 91-93+

Hints of almond paste and vanilla accent red cherries and raspberries on the nose of the 2017 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde. It's medium-bodied, crisp and crunchy yet finishes ripe and silky. It's another classic vintage that should drink well young yet be capable of up to a decade of cellaring.

Lively, with a mix of damson plum and bitter cherry notes lined with sanguine and iron hints. An understated style, but this has range and is sneaky long, with dried savory and bay leaf details on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2032.
