Fattoria di Felsina Maestro Raro 2019

Fattoria di Fèlsina has long been one of the great names in Tuscany. Based in the Chianti Classico region, Fèlsina produces one of the finest ranges of ageworthy and complex Chianti wines. Unlike many of their neighbors, Fèlsina has never succumbed to the temptation to produce “new age” wines from their fine Chianti vineyards, and continues to grow solely Sangiovese here, rather than dabble with international-styled blends that include Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. Consequently, their elegant yet intensely flavored Chiantis place them firmly among the top handful of Chianti producers, with the best vintages of their top Riserva Chiantis often approaching Brunello di Montalcino in terms of complexity and potential for longevity. 

Deep red with shades of purple and violet. Aromas of berries, tobacco, leather and black tea, without any particular herbal or grassy notes. Consistent, warm and harmonious on the palate. Good elegance and persistence with ample finish.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC VINEYARD : Il Poggiolo and Maestro Raro planted in 1983

SOIL : Quarzitic blue-grey sandstone, stratified sand, calcareous alberese mixed with alluvial pebbles

VITICULTURE : Hand-harvested. Practicing biodynamic

VINIFICATION : After de-stemming and crushing, fermentation at 28-30°C with daily automatic punch-downs, followed by ca. 20-day maceration. After drawing-off, wine went through malolactic, and into barrels in March-April.

AGING : 14-18 months' maturation, then blended in stainless steel before bottling. 8-10 months aging in glass.
