Domaine Marc Colin is a vineyard located in the town of Chassagne-Montrachet in the Burgundy region of France. It was founded by Marc Colin, who began cultivating the 6 hectares of family vines in the 1970s. Marc also acquired plots in some of the most prestigious wine appellations of the Côte de Beaune (such as Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet and Santenay). Over the years, the estate has expanded and gained a reputation for excellence in the production of Burgundian white wines.

Marc Colin is renowned for his philosophy focused on quality, precision, and the expression of terroir. Here, sustainable viticulture is the norm, with special attention given to the biodiversity of the vineyards. Vinification is carried out meticulously, highlighting the unique character of each plot. Marc's children, Caroline and Damien Colin, now manage the family estate along with his wife Michèle. Together, they uphold the family traditions while bringing a modern vision to viticulture and winemaking. The farming is sustainable, with a portion of the vineyard cultivated organically.

The estate produces 26 appellations on 12 hectares of vineyards, mainly white wines from the Chardonnay grape, and a few red wines from Pinot Noir. The whites, often from premier crus, exhibit the elegance, purity, and complexity characteristic of Chassagne-Montrachet wines. The estate places great importance on controlling yields (only 80,000 bottles produced per year) to ensure flavor concentration in the grapes. Pruning and meticulous vineyard management contribute to maintaining moderate yields, allowing the production of high-quality wines.

The 2022 Saint-Aubin Cuvée Luce opens in the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, hazelnuts and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, it's a fresh, mineral bottling that's derived from three complementary parcels. The 2022 vintage is the finest I can remember tasting at Domaine Marc Colin—and with years such as 2017 and 2020, the last decade has been mostly benevolent. As readers will remember, now that the domaine is smaller following his two brothers' secessions, he is able to be ultra-precise about harvest date, sampling parcel by parcel, he tells me, and small volumes of wine mean longer élevage is feasible too. Percentages of new oak are modest, but foudres and larger barrels are also out of the picture, Damien finding most coopers' 228-liter barrels more consistent and in any case, better adapted to vinifying smaller quantities.
