Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882 by George Schonewald, the estate is distinguished by the historic Victorian home depicted on the Spottswoode label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts, who owned the property from 1910 until its purchase in 1972 by Mary Weber Novak and her late husband, Dr. Jack Novak. The first Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate's founding.
Today, two of Mary's daughters, Beth and Lindy, work for the family winery that each year releases three wines: the Spottswoode Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Spottswoode Sauvignon Blanc, and this here, the recently-introduced Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon. The Novak family is committed to producing wines that faithfully reflect their grape origins. Each Spottswoode wine is known for its refined elegance, balance, and classic structure. Dedicated stewards of their vineyards, the Novaks have been certified organic since 1985 and certified biodynamic since 2020.
Part of Spottswoode’s storied history inspired the name Lyndenhurst, a tribute to the fragrant linden trees that still bloom in the gardens today. Lyndenhurst Cabernet Sauvignon is a dynamic and inviting wine made from grapes grown in the family's Estate Vineyard blended with those from other acclaimed family-owned vineyards. The relationships they have cultivated with fellow farmers allows them to learn about and explore other appellations throughout Napa Valley. These collaborations have also led to shared enthusiasm and commitment to organic farming, with the vision of encouraging positive change in the winegrowing community. Spottswoode's long history as a family-owned winegrowing estate, along with a deep winemaking legacy, enables them to craft this Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon with the help of neighbors, to make every vintage authentic and compelling.
Aged 20 months (new 57%) in French oak barrels 96% and Hungarian oak barrels 4%. Cabernet Sauvignon 80%, Malbec 7%, Merlot 6%, Petit Verdot 5% and Cabernet Franc 2%. This is a complex and inviting Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon suggesting notes of raw fresh blackberries, crushed graphite, cassis, baking spices, and cocoa powder. Fine tannins provide savory structure, floral notes of violets and laurel perfume the glass.
'To call this a second label of Spottswoode isn’t quite fair, it’s such a well-made, thoughtfully considered wine in its own right.' VIRGINIE BOONE Wine Enthusiast

There's a well-endowed core of warmed cassis and steeped plum fruit here, splashed with a sassafras note and backed by roasted applewood and melted black licorice on the finish. Rich in feel throughout. Best from 2022 through 2034. 2,966 cases made.

The deep purple-black colored 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Lyndenhurst comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant scents of fresh blackcurrants, black raspberries and Morello cherries plus hints of lavender, pencil lead and bouquet garni with a touch of Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is charged with electric energy, framed by grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing with great intensity and purity.
