Château Calon Ségur Le C De Calon Segur St Estephe 2019

This wonderful Bordeaux value was formerly known as 'Saint-Estèphe de Calon Ségur' until the 2019 vintage when it adopted its new name, 'Le C de Calon Ségur'. An integral member of the Calon Ségur family, this third wine of the estate exhibits a freshness and fruit-driven style geared for immediate enjoyment. It is mainly sourced from the estate’s younger vines with a balanced blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. 

The soils consist of a thick layer of gravel laid down during the Quaternary Period. Predominantly clay sub-soil from the Tertiary Period. At the summit of the gravel deposits, there is also a fine layer of clay of lacustrine origin.

56% Cabernet sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot with an average age of 22 years

Calon was the name given to the boat used in the Middle Ages to transport wood from one bank of the Garonne to the other. And at the beginning of the 18th century, the Marquis de Ségur, who received the estate following his marriage, added his name to it and thus the label of this 3rd classified growth of Saint-Estephe was born. Château Calon-Ségur remained in the Capbern-Gasqueton family throughout the 19th century, until 2012, when the estate was bought by Suravenir Assurances, which continues to produce Saint-Estephe wines with an inimitable style.  

Château Calon Ségur has also become famous for its label that decorates the bottles. Since the 18th century, the heart has been the symbol of the estate and pays tribute to the words of the Marquis de Ségur: "I make wine in Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon". For nearly three centuries, the lovers of Château Calon Ségur have remained faithful to this appellation’s iconic property of the appellation.
