With a wine history dating back to the 12th century, Chateau Carbonnieux is one of the most historic estates in the entire Bordeaux region. Perhaps more well-known for their whites (although they produce very good reds as well), Carbonnieux has old vines of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon ranging from 30-60 years. The 2021 is about 2/3 Sauvignon and 1/3 Semillon, and 100% barrel fermented although it does not taste oaky. Dry, crisp and classy, we found grapefruit and green melons on the front of the nose and palate followed by hints of honey and toast as the wine finishes with fresh, elegant flavors. Known for its aging potential, Carbonnieux is a must-have for serious collectors.
This wine has a beautiful transparent yellow color. The first nose is very pure exhaling notes of grapefruit and lime blossom then aromas around lemony citrus fruits. The attack is lively, full of freshness, in the mid-palate the wine evolves with the very interesting fat of the Semillon aged on lees and ends with a long, fresh and dense finish. 2021 is in keeping with the line of very fine white Bordeaux vintages. Pairs well with raw or cooked fish, seafood, foie gras, white meat, exotic dishes, cheese, and fruit desserts.

The 2021 Carbonnieux Blanc has a relatively spicy bouquet, very slight touches of muscat filtering through the citric fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy entry and good weight. Persistent in the mouth, leaving behind a long, saline aftertaste. This is another excellent dry white Bordeaux. 92-94

Notions of citrus zest, fresh mint, peach, pastry cream and Sauvignon botanicals introduce the 2021 Carbonnieux Blanc, a medium-bodied, satiny wine that's ample and precise. It's an attractive example of the modern school of white Bordeaux. 90-91

Lots of ripe melon, which peach, and some citrus fruits, as well as a touch of floral nuances, emerge from the 2021 Château Carbonnieux Blanc, another bright, fresh, focused white in the vintage. The 2021s can at times lack a touch of volume and richness, but this has good mid-palate depth and rock-solid balance. I'd be happy to drink a glass, and it should be ready to go right out of the gate. 89-91+
