This ancient vineyard dates back to the 15th century and surrounds a charming 18th century château in Montagne Saint-Émilion. At one stage in the 19th century it was the largest estate in the area. The château has belonged to the Durand Teyssier family since 1920, and today the family is led by Antoine Darquey, the 5th generation of his family to own and work at the estate. Their winemaking consultant is the talented Stéphane DERENONCOURT who also consults for Clos Fourtet and Pavie Macquin in Saint-Émilion. Committed to an organic approach and showcasing the expression of terroir in the wines, Teyssier is one of our favorite estates on the Right Bank. We met Antoine Darquey for the first time at Château Giscours in his role as a Bordeaux négociant, for which is also renowned. Château Teyssier is a beautiful, balanced, smooth and aromatic Montagne Saint-Émilion at a wonderfully affordable price. Made of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from vines averaging 25 years planted in clay limestone hillside soils. Aging takes place in 70% French oak barrels for 10-14 months and 30% in stainless tank. This wine has complex aromas of spices, black fruits, grilled hazelnuts and woody notes with beautiful length in the mouth, balance, finesse and fine tannins.

The 2019 Teyssier (Montagne-Saint-Émilion) offers up fresh, vibrant lavender and red and black cherries scents with a core of crunchy plums, dried mint and dark chocolate. The medium-bodied palate is softly textured, refreshing and juicy with a slight bit of appealing chewiness to the finish. 89-91

Perfumed nose of cassis, wild raspberries, chocolate orange, mint and burnt sage. It’s medium-bodied with tight-grained tannins. Ripe and fleshy, yet fresh. Drink after 2023.

This rich Merlot wine comes from an estate created in the 15th century. Structure is embedded in the opulent black fruits and acidity. The wine will age well, giving elegance as it matures. Drink from 2024.
