Fifth-growth Lynch-Bages may be world renowned for its Cabernet-based collectible red wines, but the Château also crafts a rare white wine, featured here. This famed estate has remained essentially intact since the 16th century, and was named for the Bages plateau and the ownership of the estate by Thomas Lynch in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Born in 1990, 'Blanc de Lynch-Bages' is the fruit of joining the three white varietals of the Bordeaux appellation, planted on eight parcels of the historical Lynch-Bages terroir. Since 2006, a comprehensive selection project in the vineyards has made it possible to strengthen its vitality and promote its fruity and floral notes. The intra-parcel selection at harvest time and the prevention of the oxidation of the berries before pressing contribute to safeguarding the flavors and to the harmonious aging of this grand white wine. Adding to with the fresh fruit flavors of Sauvignon Blanc, including cassis buds, grapefruit and exotic fruit, flavors of dried fruit and white flowers of Sémillon and Muscadelle mingle. The fermentation and aging in barrels, used precisely, give the wine subtle woody and vanilla notes, which contribute to their aromatic complexity.
In its youth, Blanc de Lynch-Bages is lively and explosive with a pale yellow color with green hues, and a particularly expressive nose of fine Sauvignon Blanc. Gradually the bouquet gives way to aromas of dried apricots and nuts, more specific to Sémillon. On the palate, Blanc de Lynch-Bages is fresh with complex aromas of peach combined with white and exotic fruits. The mouth feel is round and fleshy with great aromatic persistence. Throughout its life it maintains an exhilarating freshness and a long finish, typical of the great white wines of Bordeaux.

A bright and vivid white with sliced lemon, grapefruit and mineral character. Medium to full body. Crisp acidity and a minerally finish. Lots of energy this year despite the hot and dry growing season. 67% sauvignon blanc, 22% semillon and 11% muscadelle. Drinking beautifully already.

While the 2022 Château Lynch Bages Blanc had been bottled just prior to my visit, it wasn't showing any worse for wear and has a terrific perfume of honeyed lime, white flowers, citrus, and chalky minerality. Based on 67% Sauvignon, 22% Sémillon, and 11% Muscadelle, it stays fresh, vibrant, medium-bodied, and refreshing on the palate.

The 2022 Blanc de Lynch-Bages is bright and nicely focused, with tons of Sauvignon Blanc aromas and flavors driving the blend. Citrus, white flowers, mint, chalk and tomato leaf are very nicely delineated. The 2022 has just been bottled, but its freshness is notable.
