Second Growth powerhouse Cos d'Estournel has been producing this rich and lovely Médoc since the 2003 vintage. Now named 'G', formerly known as Goulée, this red is from its own lieu-dit located north of Saint Estephe. The soils on the 20 hectare vineyard are composed of clay, gravel and limestone, and the climate is cooler and windier than most of Bordeaux, giving this wine a beautiful freshness and balanced acidity. The original name Goulée translates to 'gulp', meaning this is the wine at the house of Cos d'Estournel which is enjoyed for joyful 'gulping' with family and friends!
We LOVE this 2019, finding it to be big, chewy and rich with plum sauce, black cherry and mocha flavors. Made of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, it spent less than one year in oak, preserving the beautiful ripe fruit of the vintage. 2019 is a terrific year for Bordeaux. All of the fruit for 'G' is handpicked, just as it would be for the Grand Vin of the estate. Serve 'G' with all types of classic meat dishes, veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, roasted, braised and grilled dishes, as well as with fine cheeses, especially P'tit Basque and Comté Gruyere.

The 2019 Goulée by Cos d'Estournel is gracious, perfumed and so elegant. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics give the 2019 a real feeling of finesse that is impossible to miss. Bright red/purplish berry fruit, wild flowers, spice, mint, licorice and underbrush all develop in the glass. Medium in body and all class, the Goulée is an absolute winner. The 2019 is one of the best editions of Goulée I can remember tasting. I loved it. 91-93

"Aromas of sweet tobacco, plums and cherries follow through to a medium body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh and bright finish. Juicy and flavorful. Drink in 2020.
