The Drouhin family has been making fine Burgundy since 1880, and Puligny Montrachet has become one of the white wines that they are most famous for. Located in the central part of the Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet was named by association with the illustrious Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard. The name Montrachet was added to the town name, which in fact, Puligny has its own famous and ancient origin. Puligny is believed to have belonged to a certain Pullius during the Roman empire. His estate was called “Pulliniacus” from which is derived the name Puligny (i.e. the property of Pullius). The clay and chalky soils in the village, which are very stony, have good drainage and warms the vines very well. The Chardonnay grape is planted exclusively in Puligny Montrachet. At the time of harvest, usually around mid-September, the grapes are hand-picked in small crates, then brought to the winery in Beaune. The grapes are gently and slowly pressed, and juices from the last pressings are not included in the final cepage. The juice settles down for few hours before going into oak barrels. Once the alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are completed, the wine is racked off its lees. No yeasts or enzymes are used. Finally the wine is aged in French barrels (25% in new oak) for 12 months. This is the perfect companion for shellfish, dover sole and halibut dishes.
'Our Puligny Montrachet is a wine of great finesse and elegance. The color is pure and bright, with light glints of white gold. The aromas evoke trees in bloom and white flesh fruit, like white peaches. With age, the aromas evolve towards almond and lightly grilled dried fruit. On the palate, there is a sensation of fresh silkiness. Long and persistent in the aftertaste, ending on an exceptional wealth of flavors, both floral and fruity.' - Véronique Boss-Drouhin

Wonderfully fresh layered aromas of white peach, acacia blossom and citrus peel. The striking palate has more tree fruits, ripe lemon, almonds and dried flowers with a succulent, balanced, impressively long finish. This is an excellent Puligny villages.
