2012 / 2013 / 2014 Vintages On Sale!
Benchland Select, Vine Hill and Napa Cab

The name Cakebread is synonymous with Quality & Family... founded by Jack Cakebread in 1973, this top tier California winery is still family-owned and operated to this day. Jack grew up on an orchard ranch in Contra Costa county, then after serving in the Air Force and working as an acclaimed photographer, he embarked on a grape growing and wine making journey which turned out to become one of California's most celebrated and in-demand wineries. We are proud to offer 3 vintages of Cakebread's limited production Benchland Select, crafted from two vineyards planted on gravelly, loamy soils in the western benchlands of Napa. 2012, 2013 and 2014 were all top, top vintages, and are ideal for mixing a case to create vertical tastings to enjoy over the next decade+. The Vine Hill 2014 below is made from a single vineyard in Oakville. And finally, we are offering a special price on 2014 Napa Cabernet (which we literally never have on sale!) for an added bonus!!!

'Cakebread Cellars have been on a roll, and looking back makes me realize just how impressive their wines have been.' Robert Parker

Cheers! the Murray family

Cakebread Benchland Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

wa 95

Wine Advocate 95 points The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from some of the finest western benchlands in Napa Valley. This saw about 23 months in 64% new French oak. A rather glorious nose of red and black fruits, spice box, earth and graphite jump from the glass of this full-bodied, beautifully supple and voluptuously textured wine. A dense purple color, juicy, round, plush tannins and a multi-layered mouthfeel make for a great Napa Cabernet Sauvignon to drink now or cellar for another 15-20 years.

Cakebread Benchland Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

wa 94+

Wine Advocate 94+ The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select is a stunner. Aged 22 months in 54% new French oak, the wine has a dense, blackish/blue color, a beautiful nose of graphite, blackberry, blueberry, a touch of charcoal embers and spice. It's youthful, restrained and holding back somewhat. Nevertheless, this is a super-impressive wine that will age effortlessly for 25-30 years. In fact, I don't think it's going to hit its peak for another 5-7 years. This is a beauty.

Cakebread Benchland Select Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

wa 95

Wine Advocate 95 One of the flagship wines of Napa Valley is Cakebread's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Benchland Select. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville (27%) and Rutherford (73%), and aged 21 months in 52% new French oak, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color, lots of minerality, a hint of oak in the background, and abundant crème de cassis fruit. The wine is full-bodied with beautiful integration of acidity, tannin and wood. It is still youthful, but the opulent characteristic of the 2012s is well-displayed. This brilliant wine can be drunk early in life, or cellared for another 10-15+ years.

Cakebread Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

bot 94

Vine Hill Ranch is a distinctive blend of two clones of Cabernet Sauvignon from three special blocks in the renowned Vine Hill Ranch vineyard in Napa Valley’s western benchlands near Oakville. The three lots are separately cold soaked for 48 hours to extract color, aromas and flavors prior to fermentation. Warm fermentation and gentle tannin extraction are followed by extended maceration to fully extract color and flavor and soften tannins. Blending the three finished wines creates a uniquely complex and intense Cabernet Sauvignon that speaks eloquently of its terroir.
